Who We Are
AdHoc Studio is a diverse team of video game developers driven by a pursuit of excellence in storytelling. Our DNA is made up of former employees of Telltale Games, Night School Studio and Ubisoft having written and directed such games as Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, and Minecraft: Story Mode. We draw inspiration from all forms of media and pride ourselves on our distinctive approach to interactive narrative in games. Our goal is to create resonant experiences that put the player in charge of the story, giving them agency where most games take it away. Our first original title Dispatch was released in 2025.
Responsibilities:
Wishlist Conversion and Growth Strategy: Own the strategy and execution for converting wishlists into purchases
New Project Go-To-Market Strategy: Partner with creative and production leadership during early development by surfacing market insights and audience signals to inform go-to-market decisions
Brand Strategy: Own studio branding and promotion across existing, new, and emerging platforms
Positioning: Support community and social discipline to align on taste, copy, content, tone, and brand development
Partnerships: Identify opportunities and lead marketing's role in partnerships
Regional Marketing: Develop the framework and partner with localization vendors to execute global/regional marketing and localization strategy across key territories, from awareness through post-launch lifecycle
Press Agency Management: Own the press agency relationship end-to-end, from briefing and messaging development to material approval, SOW management, and performance evaluation
Results Reporting: Set and report on performance benchmark with clear, honest analysis
Merch: Co-develop the physical merchandising strategy as an intentional revenue stream and brand-building tool, in tandem with merchandising leadership
Live Events: Plan and drive live event marketing (conventions, showcases) in partnership with merchandising leadership and marketing team
What Success Looks Like:
In your first three months, you've gotten close to Dispatch as a game, its community, and the wishlist conversion plan. You’ll have a real point of view on what's been tried, what's been missing, and where the leverage is. You've built a working relationship with the community and social team and the three of you are operating with a shared sense of direction. You're not waiting to be handed a strategy; you've drafted one and you're already testing it.
By six months, you’re owning the plan for wishlist-to-purchase conversion, with results you can speak to honestly; including what didn't work. The studio has a clearer brand identity than it did when you arrived.
And when AdHoc's next project starts taking shape, you're already firmly at the table.
About You:
We’re not just hiring someone to manage people. Rather, we’re hiring you to do the work, set the direction, and bring others along for the journey. You're a strategist who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. You can build a 12-month marketing roadmap and also write the copy for next week’s Steam update. You’re not above any task and you don’t need a team of five to get things done.
You actually play games and are immersed in the culture of entertainment and experiences. Not as a talking point, but as a real part of your life. You understand player communities from the inside. You know what makes indie audiences different and why authenticity matters more than polish.
Preferred:
Experience managing external agencies or partner relationships. Familiarity with merch as a business line. A track record with press, influencer and creator marketing in the gaming space. Experience working in a small, resource-constrained team where you had to prioritize ruthlessly. Bonus points if you’ve worked with a title that had a large wishlist base and you can speak to what worked (and didn’t) in converting them.
