Who We Are
AdHoc Studio is a diverse team of video game developers driven by a pursuit of excellence in storytelling. Our DNA is made up of former employees of Telltale Games, Night School Studio and Ubisoft having written and directed such games as Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, and Minecraft: Story Mode. We draw inspiration from all forms of media and pride ourselves on our distinctive approach to interactive narrative in games. Our goal is to create resonant experiences that put the player in charge of the story, giving them agency where most games take it away. Our first original title Dispatch was released in 2025.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Technical Director to shape the direction of our studio’s tech stack and engineering makeup. The Technical Director will oversee the engineering department and ensure our teams deliver features and toolsets that are stable and scalable. The ideal candidate is excited to solve complex technical challenges and will establish robust production ready pipelines.
Responsibilities:
Define the studio’s technical roadmap in collaboration with leadership and production
Lead pipeline architecture decisions. Research, define, extend, and maintain production pipelines, processes, and workflows.
Spearhead initiatives to create/refine proprietary tools and evaluate out-of-the box solutions
Ensure scalability across PC, console, and other supported platforms
Oversee core systems including builds, performance, gameplay frameworks, saves & backend pipeline.
Oversee the Studio’s IT and security pipelines.
Establish best practices for code quality, version control workflows, branching strategies, and automation.
Work with Directors, Designers, Producers and Engineers to translate creative goals into technical implementations.
Identify technical risks early and propose mitigation strategies.
Continuously work to minimize technical debt and maintenance hazards.
Manage the studio’s team of engineers and mentor junior level talent.
Define hiring and team composition needs for the Engineering department.

Requirements:
Have shipped at least one game in a senior technical position.
Deep knowledge of memory/performance optimization and console constraints
Experience leading multi-discipline engineering teams
Proficient in linear algebra, matrix and vector math used in games.
Excellent knowledge of modern C++
Strong understanding of Unreal Engine’s C++ runtime environment and gameplay architecture, and the interface with Blueprints.
Experienced in all phases of game development from concept to completion.
Experience executing Scrum / Agile development methodologies.
Experience using modern production software to schedule and track work.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead teams in high-pressure situations.
Excellent communication skills, problem solving, and project management skills.
Able to give and take criticism in a professional manner.
Strong and current industry knowledge.
Write clear, concise and accurate documentation.
Write clear, maintainable, and scalable code.
Preferable Experience:
B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Generalist knowledge in many aspects of video game development with solid code architecture skills.
Experience working in interactive narrative.
Positive and self-driven attitude with the ability to participate in a collaborative environment.
Self-motivated, capable of working in a remote environment.
A passion for better representation in games and game development.
